The strike
Same swing. Different starting point.
A driver is built to meet the ball on the way up and to strike it above the centre of the face. That is where the clubhead's centre of gravity sits, and a strike above it produces a higher launch angle and less backspin at the same time.
On a straight tee, ball position depends only on how deep you push it into the ground. The tilt lifts the ball and moves it forward toward the target in one go — the club meets it later in the swing, without you changing anything in your set-up.
